We are not just spinning a yarn. Quilting has long been an art, cultural and entrepreneurship activity for women in communities around the world. This has been particularly the case for disadvantaged women.Margate has been no exception. We have a wealth of creative quilting genius in our district. The Centenary Committee proudly announce our sponsors BerninaSouthCoast, now under new management and in their new premises in Umtentweni. Our thanks to Craig and Wanita Stotter who have kindly donated 2 Activa 210 Bernina machines valued at over R 20 000.00 for the two 1st prizes in the first category judging creativity, and the second category judging technique.
During the Centenary Celebrations we plan to accelerate the economic and creative opportunities for these women. The Margate Community and businesses will be creating a sustainable outlet for our quilters to showcase and to sell their creations. Prizes will go to the creators of the best quilts made in various categories.
The second Africa Bike Week is set to attract more than 8000 Harley-Davidson® and other riders from all over the world and the event will include a line-up of attractions and activities to entertain both bikers and their families.
The fun is not limited to Harley-Davidson® riders (HOG - Harley Owners Group) but to all bikers in search of a South African adventure. Riders can expect a jam-packed lineup of happenings which will include the Harley-Davidson Village and Exhibition area, Demo’s and outride’s, traders and after-market vendors.
One of the initiatives undertaken by the Margate Centenary Committee was to dress the beach front coconut palms in lights.During Christmas time these lights will flash to embrace a true Christmas spirit and welcome to our visitors to our town. After Christmas the lights will remain to accentuate this very unique coconut palm grove during our centenary celebrations.
We thank the Centenary Committee, the HibiscusCoastMunicipality and the suppliers who made it possible to activate this project.
