Feedback emanating from the business community of Margate is that some experienced a late but better than expected season. Most accommodation establishments reported shorter booking at a time but very good occupancy rate throughout. The Margate Country Club also experienced a slow start in the use of the golf course by visitors however from the 26th to the 5 January there was an influx of visitors who played golf and the rounds played showed an increase compared to 2010.Although we had a lot of rain in the first part, that did not kept the holiday makers from enjoying themselves on the beach and New Years Eve. We have also experienced over crowded beaches on the 1st & 2nd of January.
Whilst security efforts by law enforcers has received positive recognition for their efforts during season, it is widely felt that elevated levels of visible policing, and increased numbers of law enforcement personnel are required particularly on Public Holidays to exercise more effective crowd control, curbing of liquor consumption and enforcement of by-laws. Our sincere thanks to Traffic Department and SAPS for their involvement during the season.A special thanks to Protection Services for patrolling 24/7 all season.

The Annual Sardine Run – ‘’The Greatest Shoal on Earth’’
Tuesday, 31 May 2011 12:14
The Sardine Run is much more than numerous glistening shoals of sardines moving up the coast. It involves and affects many marine animals and can be witnessed from the shore, the sea or the air. And from above or below the clean waters of the Indian Ocean. Great White Sharks, Common Dolphins, and Cape Gannets are four key predators that pursue the shoals northwards along the east coast of South Africa.
